The first post

When I retired two years ago, a friend and colleague suggested that I start a blog. I have been noodling on that idea for some months now and finally decided to take the plunge. I have no theme, no agenda, no plans other than writing down some of the random thoughts that flit through my brain on any given day in the hopes that sharing these thoughts will bring a moment of joy to myself and to anyone who stumbles across this blog. So here goes. Blog post #1 is below!

I really, really, really want a snack. It’s 3:30 in the afternoon and I’ve finally finished the day’s outside errands–as my friend Teddy calls them, the “toad eating.”  I’ve decided to sit down with a book and read for a little while before leaping into dinner prep. And I really, really, really want a snack.

Am I hungry?  No. Am I thirsty?  Not really. So why do I want a snack?  Because I love food. It’s that simple. One of my toad-eating errands was grocery shopping, always dangerous for me. I successfully put everything away without trying anything, and sat down with my book, right next to this month’s Food and Wine magazine. Another temptation. And I really didn’t have much lunch today. Of course, I did have a mid-morning piece of cake (coffee cake, so that’s okay). And dinner isn’t for another 2 1/2 hours. But I don’t need a snack, I just want one.

Just this morning I was whining that I can’t seem to lose the mush around my middle (that is spreading to my back). Gee, could it have something to do with my love of food?  I cover up the Food and Wine magazine with the ooey gooey pasta on the cover and pick up my book. Where the main character is having a snack too.

I give in.
